           But whilst sustainability is a key benefit of choosing the paper wrap, there are also plenty of other reasons why it’s a great alternative solution to other direct mail options, which we’ll explore in this blog.

           What is paper wrap?
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           In simple terms, paper wrap is a hybrid between envelopes and poly wraps.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           It works in a similar way to traditional poly but uses paper rather than clear plastic to wrap direct mail items. Packs are sealed with glue along the outside edges and the flap, meaning the final packs are not dissimilar to an envelope. We can also add a perforation to create a tear-off strip for easy opening.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Paper is fed from large reels, which can be plain or printed in full colour with a bespoke design. Our high quality inkjet heads run inline to print variable data, barcodes and postage PPI’s as well as text, images and logos. So even if you’re using plain wrap, we can still print a message or branding to the outside of your pack.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           Paper wrap is ideal for mailing a range of items from A5 to oversized A4 size, including catalogues, magazines, brochures or charity appeals. We can insert multiple items into the pack, such as a letter, BRE, leaflets or forms. And with our paper wrap line running at up to 10,000 packs per hour, we can turn mailings around quickly and efficiently.

Over the past 12 months, our contributions have helped to remove over 48,800kg of carbon dioxide and supported the planting of over 1,220 m2 of native woodland in the UK. We encourage all our clients to use the Carbon Capture Scheme logo, whether on printed items or the front of paper wrap packs. It’s a great way to show that you’re serious about minimising the impact of your marketing activity.

           Another benefit of paper wrap is the opportunity it creates to customise packs with a bespoke design, printed in one, two or full colour. Why not show the front cover of the enclosed magazine, a promotional message, or even sell the wrap as advertising space to raise revenue? This not only enhances the visual appeal of the pack but also reinforces brand identity and recognition with customers, which is crucial when it’s the first thing recipients see when it lands on doormats.

           What type of mailings can I use paper wrap for?

           Paper wrap is ideal for mailing a wide range of items, including magazines, catalogues, brochures, or charity campaigns. We can use paper wrap packs in A5 to oversized A4 sizes. It’s strong enough to protect heavier and/or thicker items, which traditionally have had to be mailed in polywrap.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           We don’t have minimum or maximum run quantities, although it’s generally more feasible to use them for mailings over 1,000 items.

           Postage rates are often the biggest single cost in any DM campaign so it’s crucial you get the best rate possible. But, postage is complex and there’s no one size fits all. So many factors can affect the rate you pay; the size of your mailing piece, the quantity, what you’re sending, and to who, as well as how clean your database is and what you’re using to mail you items out in. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           Paper wrap, Poly, Potato Starch or Envelope… What’s the difference?

           There are pros and cons to all of these polywrap and eco alternatives, and ultimately, it all depends on what you’re looking to mail and your budget.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Traditional clear poly is still the cheapest option. It’s strong and durable for mailing heavier items such as catalogues or magazines and because it’s clear, it makes it easy for the recipient to see exactly what’s in the pack. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           However, there is a misconception that all polywrap is bad for the environment, which puts some clients off using it for fear of the image it’s presenting. But the standard poly we use is LSPE4, which can be recycled at larger stores or at the curbside in some local authorities.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           We also run an alternative clear wrap made from potato starch, which offers all the same benefits as poly wrap but is compostable and biodegradable. We advise adding a message to the carrier sheet to let your readers know how to dispose of it correctly and that it is a more sustainable option.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

            Envelopes are still a great choice for many mailing, such as letters, leaflets, brochures and booklets. They’re easy to recycle and, like

           Inkjet addressing is when addresses are printed onto a mail piece by an inkjet printer.  We’ll direct address items such as catalogues and brochures, self mailers and non window envelopes. It’s a quick and cost effective way to add personal data. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Our new inkjetter offers improved print quality and much quicker speeds than our previous machine. It’ll typically run at 10,000 to 15,000 items per hour, with the capability of running at double that speed for certain jobs. It all depends on the size and format of the piece to be addressed, and the amount of data to be printed on each piece. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Another key benefit of our new machine is the range of data it will allow us to print with the additional inkjet heads. We can now print up to 9 address lines, plus a PPI and return address, and even a strapline. This means, for some jobs, we won’t need to overprint your envelopes first, saving you money and ensuring we can turn jobs around even quicker.

           Even we're not old enough to remember when the Post Office allowed individual to be posted!
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h4&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           On 23rd of February 1909, as part of the suffragette movement, Miss Soloman and Miss McLellan, posted themselves to the Prime Minister Herbert Asquith. At the time the Post Office allowed individuals to be posted by express messenger, known as Human Mail. However, they weren't allowed admittance to No. 10 Downing Street and, A.S. Palmer, the telegraph messenger boy, got into trouble for not acquiring a signature for delivery.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div&gt;&#xD;

           Royal Mail had a long connection with the Suffragette Movement
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The Suffragettes protested against the government and their lack of willingness to give them the vote. The GPO (General Post Office) which was state owned, saw some local Post Office window’s smashed during anti-government attacks. These attacks only increased due to the harsh treatment of Suffragettes in prison.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Pillar boxes were also targeted in their campaigns. Emily Wilding Davison, known for having tragically died in a collision with the King's horse at the Epson Derby, set fire to three pillar boxes in 1911. Emily had been arrested and sent to prison many times, where she took part in hunger strikes. The Suffragettes also poured ink into pillar boxes, damaging the mail inside. This led to inventive designs to prevent this from happening. You can see in the comical postcard above a combination of both tactics being combated by the pillar box booting the Suffragette away.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div&gt;&#xD;

           Postcards, like the ones shown below, were used to support and ridicule the Suffragettes. On the left is an image of a Suffragette in prison, speaking of women’s liberty. Whereas on the right the Suffragette is depicted as small and insignificant being passed between two large policemen.

           The first example of the Suffragettes appearing on stamps came in 1968 when they were part of an anniversary series marking 50 years since the vote. Below are examples of unadopted designs - those that were produced but not commissioned to be the final stamps. The design by Jeffery Matthews depicts the wish for  women to pass on their vote. Here a female hand in a delicate glove places her vote into the ballot box.
          &#xD;

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div&gt;&#xD;

           David Gentleman produced two designs for the issue; one taking a photo of Emmeline Pankhurst being forcible removed by a policeman and the other looking at women wearing sandwich boards. Here they spell suffrage but Suffragettes used these as a means to spread their message - an image that shows the unity of the women.

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The same image of Mrs Pankhurst being removed by a policeman was used by Clive Abbott in the below design. The extreme facial expression of Mrs Pankhurst only emphasises the brutality the Suffragettes experienced at the hands of the police force.

           Any waste which cannot be recycled is disposed of by specialist waste collection company J&amp;amp;G Environmental, in line with the 1990 Environmental Protection Act, the Hazardous Waste Regulations, The Waste Hierarchy (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), and all other relevant UK legislation.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

           Following months of delay as a result of the pandemic, our new paper wrap line is finally here and we're very excited about it.

We've already received a lot of interest from clients and we've just run our first live job.

            We were one of the first print companies in the UK to invest in an LED UV print press. Using UV light to dry ink, consumes approximately 95% less power than using heat in traditional litho print.

  &lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

            It also removes the need for starch powder sprays to separate wet sheets as conventional litho printers have. These powders contaminate the air in the work place

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

            We recycle all our print plates

      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

            All the stock paper we use is FSC certified, and we carbon captured it all. In the past 12 months, our contributions have supported the planting of 1238m2 of native woodland and removed 48,527kgs of carbon dioxide.

  &lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

            For clients still wishing to mail catalogues and brochures in polywrap, they have peace of mind that uur standard film is recyclable. Plus, we can also run potato starch wrap which is biodegradable and compostable.

    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

            All paper waste is recycled weekly and a collection service is offered to clients to dispose of any unwanted paper waste.

           We were able to install our solar panels due to a grant we received from Sene through the help of the team at PECT.

           Whilst we had been planning to install solar panels for some time, securing this grant meant we were able to do it sooner than expected. Now they're up and running, there's no looking back. Every day the sun shines, we smile a little bit more :)
